Ingredients

Scale

1 pound lean ground beef (at least 80%)
2 tablespoons olive oil
½ onion, finely diced
2 celery stalks, finely diced
2 large carrots, finely diced
2 cups sliced mushrooms
3 garlic cloves, minced
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
3 cups beef broth
½ teaspoon dried basil
½ teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 cup frozen peas
Salt and black pepper to taste
2 pie crusts, store-bought or homemade
1 egg mixed with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash
Optional: Creole seasoning for added spice

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until no longer pink, seasoning with salt and pepper. Remove from skillet and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onions, celery, carrots, and mushrooms for 8-10 minutes until tender.
4. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring to prevent burning.
5. Stir in flour to coat vegetables, then gradually add beef broth. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
6. Add dried basil, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, and heavy cream. Return cooked beef to the skillet and stir in frozen peas. Adjust seasoning to taste.
7. Roll out pie crusts to fit a 9×11-inch baking dish, pressing the bottom crust into place.
8. Pour the beef mixture into the dish, cover with the second crust, and score the top for steam release.
9. Brush the top crust with egg wash for a golden finish and bake for 30-40 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the filling bubbles.
10. Allow the pie to cool for 20 minutes before serving to thicken the filling.

Notes

🥄 Add peas last to keep their texture firm.
🔥 For a spicy twist, incorporate Creole seasoning into the beef mixture.
❄️ This recipe freezes well. Assemble and freeze for a future convenient meal.
