Ingredients
1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup (57g) unsalted butter, softened
8 oz (225g) baking chocolate or candy melts
Optional: sprinkles, colored sugar, or additional toppings
Instructions
1. Combine all shortbread ingredients in a large bowl; mix until a soft, streak-free dough forms.
2. Roll out dough on floured parchment paper to over 1/4 inch thick. Transfer to baking sheet and freeze for 10-15 minutes until firm.
3. Cut dough into sticks approximately 3 inches long and 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. Arrange on a lined baking sheet, return to freezer for 10 minutes.
4. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Bake cookies in the center of the oven for 8-11 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Cool completely on a wire rack.
5. Melt chocolate or candy melts; let cool slightly for piping.
6. Pipe chocolate into a tree shape on each cookie and decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar. Freeze until chocolate sets.
Notes
🌟 Roll dough before chilling to prevent cracking and speed up chilling time.
❄️ Freeze dough to maintain shape and reduce cookie spreading during baking.
🍫 Use quality chocolate and dry utensils to avoid seizing during melting.
