Crockpot Pierogi Casserole with Kielbasa: A Hearty, Cheesy Delight

Description

🍲 Cozy up with this Crockpot Pierogi Casserole with Kielbasa, a perfect blend of creamy, cheesy goodness and hearty flavors that brings comfort to your table! πŸ§€

πŸ₯˜ Simple to make and packed with satisfying ingredients, this recipe is a must-try for busy days or comforting family dinners. 🍴

Ingredients

Scale

2 (16 oz) boxes of frozen pierogies (any flavor like potato, cheddar, or garlic)
1 pound of kielbasa sausage, sliced
3–4 cups of chicken broth
1 (8 oz) block of cream cheese, room temperature
2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Green onions, sliced (optional)
Sour cream (optional)

Instructions

1. Begin by slicing the kielbasa into thin rounds for even distribution and faster cooking.
2. Layer half of the sliced kielbasa at the bottom of your crockpot to infuse flavor from the bottom up.
3. Place one box of frozen pierogies over the kielbasa, arranging them evenly to create a solid layer.
4. Sprinkle one cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the pierogies to begin the cheesy layers.
5. Repeat by adding the remaining kielbasa, the second box of pierogies, and another cup of cheddar cheese to form distinct layers.
6. Pour 3-4 cups of chicken broth into the crockpot to provide moisture without drowning the ingredients.
7. Set the crockpot to high for 3-4 hours or low for around 6 hours to allow the pierogies to tenderize and the flavors to meld.
8. About 30 minutes before serving, blend the cream cheese with a remaining cup of chicken broth until smooth to create a creamy sauce.
9. Stir the cream cheese mixture into the crockpot to enrich the dish and ensure even distribution throughout the layers.
10. Top the casserole with any remaining cheddar cheese and let it cook for another 30 minutes to melt into a golden, gooey finish.

Notes

1. Add a unique twist to your recipe by experimenting with cheese varieties or incorporating fresh herbs for added depth of flavor.
2. Customize your dish to meet dietary preferences by swapping out kielbasa for plant-based sausage or using gluten-free pierogies.
3. Save time and maintain freshness by properly storing leftovers in an airtight container or freezing portions for future meals.
