Ingredients
1. 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
2. 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
3. ¼ cup brown sugar
4. ¼ cup melted butter
5. 2 large eggs
6. 4 cups all-purpose flour
7. 1 teaspoon salt
8. 1 cup blueberry jam or 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen blueberries (thawed and dried if frozen)
9. ¼ cup granulated sugar
10. 1 tablespoon cornstarch
11. ¼ teaspoon salt
12. ½ cup brown sugar
13. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
14. 1 cup powdered sugar
15. 2 tablespoons maple syrup
16. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Start by preparing the dough by combining warm milk, active dry yeast, and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until bubbly and foamy.
2. Add melted butter and eggs to the yeast mixture and stir until well combined. Gradually incorporate all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes until soft and elastic; if kneading by hand, use a lightly floured surface.
3. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
4. While the dough rises, prepare the blueberry filling by mixing blueberry jam with granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. If using fresh or thawed frozen blueberries, ensure they are well-coated.
5. Prepare the cinnamon filling by mixing brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a separate bowl.
6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release air bubbles. Roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle, approximately 15×9 inches.
7. Spread the blueberry filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top.
8. Starting from the long side of the rectangle, tightly roll the dough into a log. Use dental floss or a sharp knife to slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
9. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving some space between them. Cover with a cloth and let them rise for another hour until puffed up.
10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes until golden brown on top and baked through.
11. While the rolls are baking, prepare the maple icing by whisking together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth.
12. Allow the baked rolls to cool slightly before drizzling the maple icing generously over the top.
13. Let the icing set for a few minutes before serving the rolls warm, paired with coffee or your chosen beverage.
14. Store any leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze for long-term storage by wrapping each roll individually in plastic wrap and placing them in a resealable freezer bag.
Notes
1. Master the art of clean roll slicing by using dental floss for perfect shapes without smearing filling.
2. Add a zesty twist to your blueberry filling with lemon juice or spices like cardamom for unique flavors.
3. Keep rolls fresh by freezing them individually in plastic wrap and reheating for anytime indulgence.
